Frequently Asked Questions
-
Auditions consist of a prepared solo, sight-singing, and an interview with the Artistic Director.
-
Successful auditionees almost always have previous choral experience. Solid music-reading ability, and a clear voice with good intonation are necessary. Auditions consist of a prepared solo, sight-singing, range exploration, and some discussion with the Artistic Director about musical goals and interests.
-
Weekly rehearsals (on Tuesday evenings, 7PM-9:30PM) are supplemented by one additional rehearsal evening in two of the weeks approaching each concert. Singers are expected to be at all rehearsals. If more than two rehearsals are missed in a concert cycle, it is unlikely for a singer to be able to participate in that concert.
-
Ember artists are typically drawn to Ember through a love of new music, new and unusual experiences, and a shared commitment to human values based in a loving and supportive community. They bring a deep-seated belief in the importance of bold, professional performances of new music, and thrive on interactions with their composers– which is Ember’s norm. Ember artists are robustly skilled, with an audition bar that is equally high for stipendiary and experienced avocational singers.
-
There are no membership fees or dues. Singers are expected to purchase their own music (ordered by the concert for the ensemble), and to provide their choice of black folder/iPad cover and concert attire.
